The Fun Pack Song (to the tune of Bad Romance)
Oh o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
Oh o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song
Let's start with the bag
That's right, grab your bag
It's the fun pack bag
Attack the fun pack
(REPEAT)
Hold up your flag, don't you forget
You can wave it if you feel like it
Let's wave the flag
Wave wave wave
Let's wave the flag
Take out your light stick, it's two of a kind
It's interactive, means you can join
Just pretend
Oh oh oh... It's a disco
(SPOKEN)
You know that I want you
And you know that I need you
I want a wet, wet tissue
I want Newater and I want a cold drink
You and me, let's share a bit
I want a biscuit and I want a sweet
You and me, let's share this treat
Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song
Let's start with the bag
That's right, grab your bag
It's the fun pack bag
Attack the fun pack
I want Newater and I want a cold drink
You and me, let's share a bit
I want a biscuit and I want a sweet
You and me, let's share this treat
Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
Time for the fun pack song
Kopi-O o o o o o o o o
We like the fun pack song
Let's start with the bag
That's right, grab your bag
It's the fun pack bag
Attack the fun pack!
Organisers of the National Day Parade (NDP) have got themselves into a fix after they modified the lyrics of Lady Gaga hit ‘Bad Romance’ to create a song about the parade’s goodie bag. Apparently they did not realise that the public performance rights which they had secured for the song did not allow them to modify its lyrics.
The chairman of the NDP show segment, Colonel Ong Tze-Ch’in, said that they are currently working to rectify this.
The song, called the Fun Pack Song, was performed at last Saturday’s rehearsal for the parade, with a clip of it put on YouTube and Stomp. The song was to celebrate the contents of this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) goody bag.
Rehearsal of the Fun Pack Song
The organisers had planned to repeat the performance for a pre-parade segment on National Day itself, Aug 9.
The lyric writer is local veteran playwright, Haresh Sharma, 45. He is behind the script for this year’s NDP show segment.
NDP creative director, Beatrice Chia-Richmond told The Straits Times the NDP hosts introduce items in the fun packs to spectators every year, and the Fun Pack Song was “a fresh and light-hearted way to do so”.
Designers of this year's Singapore National Day Parade fun pack - Jesline Teo,21, Mas Shafreen, 39, and Rebekah Lee, 16.
The YouTube clip of last Saturday’s performance of the Fun Pack Song has gone viral and been panned by netizens, receiving more than 2,000 “dislikes” from viewers so far. Most netizens have been scathing in their assessment of the lyrics, with some asking why items such as biscuits, sweets and even kopi-o (black coffee) were being celebrated in the song,.
With so many Singaporeans cringing at the use of the popular hit song in this manner as part of an NDP segment performance, a repeat performance may not go down well at all.
