IT HAD to happen sooner or later, we suppose. Last Thursday, popular 987FM radio DJ duo The Muttons - aka Vernon A and Justin Ang - released an album. Well, it's kind of an album.
Called The Muttons Show: What The Bleah!, the album is a compilation of modern hits, and some wacky repartee by the two DJs in between. It's silly, irreverent and sometimes, bordering on "what the heck was that all about?" - pretty much like their daily radio show Muttons On The Move. Except now you can put the loving twosome on repeat.
All in good fun, as the Muttons would say. They put their heads together and emailed us their collective questions to our answers.
So, really, what's the idea behind doing this album?
We've been doing The Muttons Show for about five years now, and in the process we've done almost 100 prank calls, over 200 parody songs, raps and fun bits. The day after we won Best Radio Show at the Radio Awards 2010, Warner Music approached us to work on a compilation. Dollar signs lit up in our eyes, and we're hoping that if we can sell 5 million copies - one per Singaporean - we never have to work a day in our lives ever again.
So what can we the listeners expect? Do we need to see a doctor after listening to it?
It's called The Muttons Show: What The Bleah!, so it literally is a radio show on a CD to carry around with you. It contains some of our best - some say worst - moments of the show from years past, interjected between No 1 hit songs from Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Pitbull, Iyaz and more.
What do you guys expect from this?
Our ambitions are lofty: We hope that after this, ERP gantries will be taken down, shuttle buses to casinos will be reinstated and chewing gum will finally be un-banned. But if not, we're hoping that this would be something you wouldn't mind receiving for Christmas, and enjoy along with your family and friends.
So what, radio DJs are the new rock stars?
No, lah! Rock stars are usually rich, handsome, rich, surrounded by playboy models, rich, addicted to sex and rich. None of that ever happens to us.
